decorating for the joy of it
As the hustle and bustle of the holiday season turns up, and the stresses of it all seems to take over, I find that simply glancing around my home brings about feelings of comfort and joy. After all, isn't that what holiday decor should be? A gentle reminder to celebrate and relish in the moments of peace and happiness within your own home. This is why I take the time and put love in all the little details around our home.
This year I find myself obsessed over the look of vintage wagoneers and pine trees. Throughout my home are little touches of this. Whether a throw pillow or a soap holder, you will notice the theme repeated.

We always have two large trees in the home. One that I can make "look pretty"according to my husband, and the other to hang all of the meaningful ornaments and many creations by our two children. Below is my "fancy" tree and I went with a woodland ornament look, with festive boxes from Homegoods.

Our powder bath gets lots of traffic this time of year. We host several dinner parties and gatherings so I wanted to add a little touch of holiday love. I used this beautiful and FREE watercolor printable by the ever-so-talented Lucy from Craftberry Bush. I then framed it in a rough cut wood frame from Michaels and voila! The hand towel is Sabrina Soto for Target.

This year our fireplace mantle got some new stocking courtesy of Crate & Barrel. I love the look of these two designs together and they look great in the room. The first photo is by day, the second is by night. I love the look both ways!

Much of the home (both in and out) is decorated with various types of pine and fir from a local tree farm. I used tree stumps from our yard and antique metal watering cans to house two artificial trees that anchor the entrance to our home.

We found a beautiful tree this year, but it was about ten feet tall and we couldn't fit it in the family room. So we cut it down from the base and I was able to use the boughs for stairwell decor. I coupled this with oversize metallic ornaments and an eye-catching red lantern from Amazon that only cost $8! I bought two :)
