Sometimes life gives you opportunities. It puts them right in your face and you can't even recall how they got there. Those opportunities may come with a bag of nerves and loads of uncertainty, but that's all part of the process. Over the summer we put an offer in on an adorable new construction cabin in the Adirondack mountains (near Lake Placid, NY). We had no idea what would happen and were so nervous. Within a few days we had made a deal and the concept of Juniper Hill Cabin was born.

I have long loved the classic, colonial look, of the black barn. Living in New York and often traveling to New England, this style and color of barn can easily be spotted throughout your travels. Yet in these past few years the black barn has become a modern architectural phenomenon that is now taking on the concept of 'home' for many. The winters in upstate New York are long and gray. Most days are bitter cold and sometimes you go a week or two without a bright sunny day. I love the change of seasons and appreciate the unique perspective and energy that each one brings. That being said, by the time Spring approaches I cannot wait to resume outdoor living. One of my favorite (and most simple) things to do is sit on my front porch with a cup of coffee and a good book or magazine. Wave hello to neighbors as they pass by (I apologize in advance for being in my PJ's most mornings) and start the day with a few moments of peace and reflection.

Most of 2018 to date has been spent in wind and rain, snow and sleet and lots of cloud cover. Memorial Day Weekend 2017

Our first RV trip of the year is in the books! It was a little bit of a wet one with cooler temps than the kiddos would've liked, but either way, it was a vacation! Our destination to kick off this camping season was Cooperstown, NY. Only about 90 minutes from my hometown of Cohoes it was a close getaway, perfect for a couple nights in our RV.

The concept of 'time' seems to be luxury idea for me these days. I don't recall another point in my life where I've been busier but I don't want to give up on the simple pleasures of life. For me, a full-blown garden this summer seems like it may be out of the question (stay tuned) but a simple little herb garden seemed feasible thanks to the help of Target's dollar-bin.

Our Stamped Concrete Patio Makeover

When we built our home in 2013 we had our contractor lay a pad of crusher run so we could take the dogs out on what was mainly a mud pit at the time. The pad was temporary (so we thought). But four years later we found that this was a project we never took on and was long overdue. Our goal was to create a large patio space with room for a fire pit area, eating area and seating/hot tub area.
