"You did what with antique shoe stretchers"?
I came across these super cool antique shoe stretchers at a couple of artisan fairs over the summer. I really had no clue what to do with them, but I knew they were coming home with me.
I'm the type of gal that needs to sit on an idea before taking a leap. So that's what I did with the shoe stretchers, and boy am I glad that I did. Here they are in all their glory:
My current home is quite new...a year old this month to be exact. And with a new house comes new walls, and for me this has been a little nerve-racking. I've been very calculated about putting holes in the walls and hanging things. That being said, I loved the way the above photo came out, even if I only laid the shoe stretchers there for the background. BUT - my master bath has looked quite bare for a while and it was time to give it a little vintage to balance out all the "new". That's when the lightbulb went off. These antique pieces were to become wall art in my bathroom...eureka! Now...how do I hang these suckers???
I played out a few scenarios in my head of how to hang them, but I wanted them to each have their own level on the wall and look as if they are floating (sort of). I eventually settled on the hooks below and sprayed them with
Rust-Oleum Oil Rubbed Bronze metallic spray paint & primer in one (to match my bathroom fixtures and hardware)....they came out perfect!!!
Next - I used the hooks to spot mark where I wanted the shoe stretchers to hang. I didn't measure because I didn't want it to look too calculated. I'm so happy with the results and figured I'd do a master bath tour along with the wall art photos:

The wall color is
Sherwin-Williams Mink (6004)...it's the prefect balance of gray and brown. And it works really well with these FABULOUS faux-wood ceramic tile floors that I selected in a smokey gray color...
I'm SOOO in love with these floors I can't even tell you! They look great, clean even better...and hide EVERYTHING!!!!

ReplyDeleteCould't tell you the brand because it was factory direct from the cabinet installer we went with, BUT, I can tell you that the name is BISON. Hope this helps...happy holidays! :)

ReplyDeleteHi Robin --- we chose NOT to run thermal heating under the tile flooring and I'm thinking that would've been great in retrospect. However, I do have a large bath mat and rectangular runner in front of the sinks which is where I mainly stand when getting ready, so to be honest the cold tile hasn't really been an issue. I'm also a lover of big fluffy slippers in the winter months so that helps too :) Good luck with your project!
