Master Bedroom Retreat

a vision board to inspire

We moved into our current home in August of 2013. It was our third move in three years and while it was exciting, we were exhausted! When we moved in we selected mostly neutral tones except for our master bedroom. When it came time for the master we selected 'Special Gray' by Sherwin Williams. We love the color so much and know that it's inspired both friends and followers to try bold, fun color!
Fast forward almost five years and it's amazing how styles change and the colors that once inspired and attracted your eye don't trigger that same emotion anymore. The color isn't any less amazing, it's the interpretation of the color that has shifted. We paired up our bold purple/gray paint with white wall-to-wall carpet. It should also be noted that selecting a white carpet for a first floor master is a HORRIBLE idea! I don't care if it's stain resistant, pet resistant and life resistant --- it won't hold up! Here's a photo of our bedroom the way it currently sits:

As I look for my next home design project it makes the most sense to update our master. The carpet is atrocious (looking at it gives me anxiety) and I need a new wall color. The are a few things that we will be keeping in our bedroom as we reimagine it. First, our bed frame. Purchased it in 2011 from Pier One Imports and we still love it. It's black and can convert into three different looks with different posts - lots of fun (but I don't think they sell it anymore...so I found almost the same one for you)! Second, our IKEA furniture. I still swoon over our dresser set from IKEA and I think they discontinued it. I can't seem to find it on their website anymore. Other than that, everything else is fair game to go.

I didn't want to just throw together a bedroom on the fly. I want it to feel intentional, relaxing, balanced and modern. So I put together a vision board and sourced everything out for you in case you love it as much as I do! Below are the inspirational pieces and where to find them...
