Brick & Mortar

the warmth and tradition of brick in modern day homes

SOURCE: unknown /Pinterest
When you think flooring and backsplash you might not list brick as your first material of choice. However, brick is popping up more and more in today's contemporary homes and I'm loving it!

It's notable to mention the look of the brick that I'm seeing more and more of. The photos I selected for this post all have the look of weathered, colonial style brick. Old Mill Brick (sold at Lowe's) has a variety of colors and historic looks to choose from. For example, the photo below is their "Rushmore" thin brick which can easily be used in a new home project.

To inspire you I've curated a collection of photos  that capture the essence of weathered brick paired with modern, clean lines and neutral surroundings. One of my favorites is this gorgeous kitchen where the oversized island is anchored by a wall of brick. I love the warmth and aesthetic it provides in this space. As you can see, it is paired with subway tile and a Carrera marble counter against hardwood flooring. Despite the variety of materials, this is one of the most inviting kitchens I've seen. What do you think?

Here are an array of photos showcasing beautiful uses for brick back drops. Whether an accent wall, backsplash or architectural highlight, I'm loving it all!! You don't have to live in an old mill or loft in SoHo to get that brick look. Check out some of these uses and beautiful spaces...
