Christmas Tour 2014

My Humble Holiday Home...

The Unique Nest has been quiet these past few weeks and will probably remain that way throughout the Christmas season. Because for me, Christmas is about family, faith, reflection, and did I mention family?

As much as I love to look at magazines, websites and blogs filled with beautifully decorated homes, perfect Christmas trees and gorgeous tablescapes - the reality at my home is much different. Nothing is perfect - none of the decor really matches, and most of what I have was hand made by one of my children. While I'd be lying to say this doesn't slightly drive me and my OCD a little crazy, it's exactly what makes Christmas so special.

It's taken some time for me to realize that it's not about the glitz and the glam, but about displaying memories and heirlooms that make Christmas so special! So here is a look at my not so perfect, but festive home for the holidays...

{OUTDOOR DECOR}

My simple entrance to our home...

Burlap ribbon wrapped in twine holds the Christmas wreath up
A vintage sleigh decorated in evergreen and ribbon adds some character to the porch entrance

Our newly built fence looks festive covered in fresh fallen snow and large multi-colored Christmas lights...

{INDOOR DECOR}

The simple decorations inside our home revolve around the traditional red, green, gold and silver colors of the season. We have two trees setup: (1) A small artificial tree that holds my "Country Christmas" ornaments in the front room; (2) A large Frasier Fir tree that holds all of our family ornaments and home made ornaments from our children.

Here is a look at my front room "Country Tree" with woodland animal ornaments...
Holiday throw pillows from Target add some character to the tree in the front room

This red striped burlap ribbon from AC Moore adds such a cozy feeling to this tree...
My seasonal 'pig' chalkboard displays a reminder to "rejoice" in the Christmas season, accompanied by a large wooden snowflake from Homegoods and a crafty little Santa Claus...
One of my many woodland ornaments...super cute right?
Festive holiday gift boxes from Christmas Tree Shops - save time on gift wrapping while staying stylish!
Even the iMac is feeling festive!!!
Poinsettia are a must-have in my home for Christmas. Not only are they stunning in color, but they add such warmth and texture during the cold winter season in upstate NY...

More woodland ornaments, along with garland, white lights and little bows, decorate the staircase...

My reindeer throw pillow from Homegoods - I LOVE THIS!!!
A festive tree banner from Target hangs between the pendant lights of my kitchen...
Dried hydrangea in a copper vase and a second large wooden snowflake next to my daughter's paper Christmas tree creation decorate a cozy nook in my home...
And what would the holidays be without hand made arts and crafts from the kiddos, as well as a hand painted sled from my aunt...
More decorative details...

The main tree in the family room, decorated with family ornaments and a plaid tree skirt...

Even the spaghetti squash gets festive this time of year :)
A holiday dish towel from The Vintage Home Studio hangs on our Verona range in the kitchen...
That's it! My holiday home tour for 2014 - thanks for stopping by and I wish you and your family a very blessed and joyous holiday season! xoxo~Laura

  1. Love it all! :) And I totally agree that this time of year is meant for family and friends. I've been meaning to post a home tour myself but I'd rather go shopping with my mom or pick out a tree with my fiance instead! I cannot wait to have little ones though to celebrate the best time of the year.
