Summertime Family Room Facelift

New pillows & rug brighten up this heavy traffic space

One of the quickest, easiest and cheapest ways to freshen up any space in your home is to accessorize seasonally. Keep the big pieces in place (sofas, coffee tables, etc.) and then everything else is fair game. To spruce up my family room for the summer months I started with some gorgeous nautical inspired pillows from Homegoods and a new rug from Rugs USA and super plush rug pad from Rug Pad USA.

Pictured above is my new rug from Rugs USA. It is their Chalet Diamond Cotton Check Flatwoven Pattern, 8 x 10 in size. It is just so pretty! But I have to tell you --- the rug wouldn't be half as great without the amazing rug pad I have from Rug Pad USA.  They have a variety of rug pad options and sizes. I was looking for cushion, durability and grip so I opted for their premium lock felt and rubber pad. It works great and adds that extra layer of cozy to our family room.

Here are some pics of the pad (and rug) up close so you get to see the quality. Even Mr, Milton loves it!

Confession:
My couch is over 10 years old and although I don't love the aesthetic, I refuse to replace it until my children are a bit older. They spill all over it, wipe their noses on it (yuck) and if it's not the kids, it's Mr. Milton making a mess on it. So although I long for a new, clean and modern couch --- it will have to wait! Practicality is a big part of design in my home.

I love how just a few small additions have changed the whole look of this space. Here are some photos of my pillows up close so you can see how lovely they are. The colors are great for this time of year and some of the material is outdoor so they clean up super easy after my kids wipe their mouths on them :)

Coffee table details to add that little extra something while remaining simple enough to clear off while entertaining...

Another view of our freshened-up space. Light, bright and clean ---- this should last for about one week! :)

  1. How is your rug holding up? Also, is it the taupe or grey? I am looking at this same one!
