Memorial Day Weekend 2017

Our first RV trip of the year is in the books! It was a little bit of a wet one with cooler temps than the kiddos would've liked, but either way, it was a vacation! Our destination to kick off this camping season was Cooperstown, NY. Only about 90 minutes from my hometown of Cohoes it was a close getaway, perfect for a couple nights in our RV.

We pull it with our GMC Acadia and it's a great camper for weekend get-aways and beach trips. It's considered a "hybrid" model because it has a hard body with slide-outs (like a traditional travel trailer) with tent ends. It trails at about 4,600 pounds.

We arrived to the KOA Cooperstown in late afternoon and were greeted by long country roads, cattle farms, and acres upon acres of greenery. This KOA was recently purchased by two really lovely women who traded in corporate cubicles for campground management (sounds tempting right)!

The camp sites were all clean and a decent size, equipped with fire pits, picnic tables, and utility hook-ups. The RV pictured below is my sister Nicole's (it's a 33 foot Jayco travel trailer). We try and camp together with our families as much as possible from May to October. The photo after it is our hybrid model with the tent beds out. Our kiddos love it!

This KOA is dog friendly and I have to tell you how much our Goldendoodle Vera absolutely loved meeting so many furry friends! You also never know when an Amish wagon will drive by :)

No trip to Coopertown is complete without a visit to the Ommegang brewery. Sounds kinda weird BUT this place is also family friendly. There is a great restaurant and patio area with rolling hills for the kids to play while adults sample some of the local libations.

After a trip to the brewery we highly recommend a visit to Glimmerglass State Park. The park is complete with a beach, playgrounds, pavilions, picnic areas, hiking trails, a covered bridge and much more. It's clean and only cost $7.00 for the entire family to enter.

Back at the campground you can enjoy large fields and open spaces for fun. Our kids loved this field and we were calling it the "field of dreams" (of course). We walked the land at night and my husband told the kids a ghost story that soon got all of them to bed. A great tactic (by the way) when you need some adult drinks by the camp fire.

See for yourself the rustic and simplistic nature of the RV park. It is understated (in a good way) and a recommended visit for those looking for a gold ole', back-to-basics camping weekend. With sunsets to die for and breathtaking rolling hills, this is truly a destination to make time for. We will be back --- that I know!
