My "Mini" Gallery Wall

Creating Visual Interest (on the cheap!)

Since moving into our second new home in just two years, I have been in no rush to hurry up and put holes in these newly sheet rocked walls. In my last home, I was in a crazy rush to hurry up and hang everything and make it all PERFECT! This house is different.

My husband and I drew the floor plans ourselves and revised them 100 times before working with an architect. That being said, there's an ownership and sense of pride in this home that's much different from before. So now, I'm to the opposite extreme and have been lackadaisical (although I doubt my friends would agree with this adjective) when it comes to decorating certain parts of my home.

Take for example my master bedroom. I have contemplated the perfect piece of art to hang over my headboard for a year now. Problem is, every piece of art I've liked has carried a ridiculous price tag with it. My mother always told me that "I had champagne taste with a beer wallet" --- I'm thinking she was spot on! So, last week, while out shopping around, I came across a couple cool pieces that I thought would work well together. That's when the idea hit me! I'd create a "mini" gallery wall. Nothing that was too difficult to piece together or overwhelming to the space, but an eye-catching, visually interesting work of art that I could create for under $100.

BEFORE...

These mirrored frames were the first pieces to catch my eye while shopping around at Homegoods. Then I saw the mirror (pictured below on the right), tucked away in a different area. I used my bed and a measuring tape to gauge how much space I had to work with, and played around with different configurations...
As for the Pièce de résistance, I HAD to have this framed print that states: "FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS". To me, it was a double entendre. The "dreams" of going for what you want in life, and the "dreams" we have while resting in bed at night. It seemed appropriate that this should hang directly above my bed frame!
I happened to have this some chevron craft paper at home that I decided to use to fill the glass photo frames, in lieu of a traditional photograph. I also thought it added a little bit of whimsical yet modern flare to the wall.
Here they are...Didn't they come out really cute? (as you might notice...I went with a slightly different create paper in the end)

AFTER...

So here is what I'm calling my "mini" gallery wall. Isn't it fun? It makes a statement and fills the void for now. It might not be the picture perfect piece of art I was searching for, but I'm really happy with how it came out in the end, AND - it cost less than $100 for all five pieces at Homegoods. The key was not to find things that were too "matchy-matchy" but still complemented one another.

Here is another angle (with better lighting I may add) AND a sneak peek of my master bedroom. I will have a post with a full tour coming up very soon - so STAY TUNED for details!
